The town is to blame for the initial spark. Those who killed are responsible for their own actions.

I'm inclined to agree. It's just.....

How could it be so easy to convince people to do such horrible things?

I'm afraid that if people were that easily swayed, the urge to kill was already there inside of them to begin with.
